Multimedia Intern, Science Desk (Remote) - Fall 2020

NPR’s Fall 2020 Internship Program will be fully remote. 
Program Duration: September 8 - December 11, 2020
The multimedia intern will develop photo research and editing skills to help tell a wide range of stories about science, health and food. Interns will also have an opportunity to shoot still photography and video as well as assist with charts, infographics and animations.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in building Web pages and multimedia elements
  • Assists with editing photos, video, charts, infographics and animations for science, health and food coverage on NPR.org.
  • Writing, researching and updating science, health and food news and feature coverage on the NPR.org site and Science Desk blogs, including Shots, the health blog, and The Salt, the food blog, and Goats and Soda, our global health and development blog. 
  • Works with the news desk and digital news team to assist with visual story development including editing of staff and freelance photos
  • Preparation of photos for the website
  • Building of photo galleries
  • Routine administrative tasks
  • Attending editorial meetings
  • Other work as needed
WHO CAN APPLY?
  • LOCATION: Must be planning to work during the term of the Fall 2020 internship in the United States and authorized to work in the United States. 
  • EDUCATION: Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate of no more than 12 months from the month of the start of the internship. 
  • TECHNOLOGY: Must have access to a personal computer, phone, and reliable internet.
REQUIRED SKILLS 
  • Journalism courses
  • Interest and knowledge in science, health and food
  • Excellent writing, researching and editing skills
  • Still and video shooting skills
  • Ability to work quickly, accurately and under deadline pressure
  • A self-starter who can respond to feedback and editorial direction
  • Ability to pitch and execute original story ideas
  • The ability to exhibit creativity and to show flexibility in handling different kinds of assignments
