Math/Business Teacher
Terms of Employment: 194 or 196 days, depending on experience within WCSD
This is a shared position between Waukee High School and the Waukee Innovation and Learning Center.
Position Criteria:
- Valid Iowa Teaching License, required
- 5-12 Business OR 5-12 Mathematics
- 5-12 CTE Information Technology: preferred or willing to obtain
- 5-12 Computer Science OR 5-12 MOC (Multi Occupations): preferred but not required
- Three or more years of related experience in applicable instructional areas or other documentation indicating ability to teach concurrent-enrolled courses, preferred.
- Background with problem-solving methods in computer programming, defining and analyzing logic structure problems and logical data models, designing computer solution algorithms, and an understanding of information and database management systems architecture.
- Ability to innovate: 1) see things differently than others, thus have different perspectives, 2) conquer the fear of uncertainty, and 3) have the social intelligence to sell your ideas to other people.
- Proven facilitation skills.
- Proven project management skills.
- Proven collaboration and oral and written communication skills.
Performance Criteria:
- Willingness to create simultaneous changes in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and reporting practices in a standards-based environment.
- Understanding of the developmental nature of the high school learner and demonstrated ability to support growth of the whole child in a positive manner.
- Understanding of authentic learning and engagement, including Iowa Core’s Universal Constructs, the foundation of Waukee APEX professional skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with high school learners.
- Facilitate student-driven learning by playing the role of a learning coach and manager, not a dispenser of knowledge.
- Facilitate inquiry-based learning through ‘authentic pedagogy’ like professional-based learning and learning by design.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity in all areas, reserve judgment, and maintain an open mind (i.e. the curriculum is never completed, always changing) in a fast-paced environment.
- Manage mentors and integrate their work directly into APEX curriculum.
- Collaborate with business partners to perform continuous curriculum enhancement and refinement.
- Co-teach with an external expert from the field of study.
- Work with the high school counseling department and content areas to ensure student transitions are seamless.
- Develop and utilize formative and summative authentic assessments, including use of standards-based assessment and reporting.
- Co-design dynamic, authentic, relevant, rigorous curriculum that meets district, college and state standards, while mirroring the actual business environment.
- Collaborate with other Teachers for Advanced Professional Studies to produce integrated projects and opportunities across the curriculum strands.
- Involve parents and communities in supporting student learning.
- Provide ongoing communication with families and the community.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning.
- Act as a liaison to communicate and support other colleagues in the K-12 system to promote relevant and authentic learning.
