Production Technician

The Iowa PBS is looking to fill a Production Technician to assist the state.

Role Responsibilities
  • Perform video and audio recording and provide general technical support for field and studio television and web productions.
  • Operate all television lighting equipment owned by Iowa PBS and be able to hang, focus, power and program all lighting instruments at varying heights to properly illuminated productions.
  • Implement current lighting styles and ensure correct ratios and color correction for field recordings.
  • Correctly assemble, power and operate safely all Production electrical distribution equipment used by Iowa PBS.
  • Operate various camera platforms, media capture devices, lighting & power systems, camera control units, intercom systems, field audio systems, and support equipment in use by Iowa PBS.
  • May perform crew chief duties for large productions including delegating above duties.
  • Implement visual storytelling (Telling a story with images. Establishing the scene, then video/photographing the relevant images that tell the story) and journalistic principles of truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness, and public accountability with work assignments.
  • Assist the producer/director in aesthetic and content decisions of field, studio, and remote productions.
  • Perform basic maintenance of all cameras, media capture devices, lighting instruments, teleprompter and support equipment.
  • Set up and monitor studios, scene shop and offices in accordance with OSHA safety standards and Iowa PBS guidelines.
  • Drive all Iowa PBS Production vehicles and help with basic maintenance of vehicles including checking fluids and keeping vehicle clean. Complete vehicle logs and maintenance reports.

Essential Functions
  • Maneuver, build, and operate studio and location camera and lighting equipment.
  • Operate various camera platforms, media capture devices, lighting and power systems, camera control units, intercom systems, field audio systems, and support equipment.
  • Maintain cameras, media capture devices, lighting instruments, teleprompter and support equipment.
  • Drive production vehicles to assigned locations.
  • Assist with maintenance of vehicles.

Special requirements (if applicable):
CDL Class B driver license required or ability to obtain within time-frame set by Iowa PBS.MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in film, video, journalism, tele-communicative arts, or related field, and one year of full-time experience in the film/video/sound or television industry;
OR

graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in film, video, journalism, telecommunicative arts, or related field, may be substituted for the required education and experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of the required experience (30 semester hours or one year) for each year of the required education.
