Translation/Scripture Engagement Worker for the Roma

Translation/Scripture Engagement Worker for the Roma

Mark Twain once wrote, “The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter - it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

As a supported* translation and Scripture engagement worker for the Roma people, help choose the right words and impact the Roma for eternity.

Today, over 2000 people groups, 150 million people, still don’t have the Bible translated into their languages! Wycliffe USA believes the Word of God can transform lives when people hear it in their own language or form, and we urgently need you to join the team!

Job Location: Central/Eastern Europe

Want to work in a different location? Wycliffe USA has many open positions located in Africa, Asia, Europe, Americas, and the Pacific! Even though this job is located overseas, you must be legally authorized to work in the United States as per U.S. employment laws.

What Might You Do?
Every day is different! One day you might research linguistic and cultural data. Later you might help develop local initiatives for Scripture engagement. Another day you’ll help plan and make Scripture-based products, while mentoring and training local Roma people in translation.

This job might be for you if…
  • You demonstrate the desire and ability to support corporate Biblical and religious goals and participate in regular work-related spiritual activities without reservation (Spiritual Bona Fide Occupational Qualification)
  • You are thrilled about learning Romani languages and cultures.
  • You have a deep love for people, are tactful, respectful, and sensitive.
  • You enjoy creatively involving groups of people in learning.
  • You take the initiative and enjoy learning and investigating.
  • You’re skilled in phonetic transcription, electronic recordings, phonological and morphosyntactic analysis.
  • You’re comfortable using software to assist in analysis and translation.
  • You’ve earned a Bachelor’s degree and have a good understanding of the Bible.
