CDC Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance Network Fellowship

A fellowship opportunity is currently available in the Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB) within the Division of High-Consequence Pathogens and Pathology (DHCPP) of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
Throughout the course of this research project, and under the guidance of a mentor, the fellow will gain experience by receiving training in following:
- Triaging incoming cases and test requests from sites
- Assisting in organization, scheduling, and content development for in-country histopathology, special stain, and IHC training sessions
- Grossing’s wet tissues, photograph and upload photos to database
- Transferring data from CHAMPS portal to IDPB files and database, and vice versa
- Attending histopathology review sessions and provide case data at appropriate times during evaluation of slides (age before, clinical/lab data afterwards)
- Assisting pathologists in ordering tests in database, as needed
- Generating spreadsheets and CHAMPS summary data from IDPB Access database or other files. Using spreadsheets to perform basic data analyses upon request.
- Together with site representatives, schedule and organize telepathology sessions.
- Preparing case summaries in preparation for telepathology.
- Preparing preliminary telepathology reports after sessions and upload final report to CHAMPS portal after review/revision bypathologists.
- Slide scanning and management of digital images for CHAMPS cases.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: September 2020
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
