Behavioral Health Skills Counselor - PT (Mason City, IA)
As a Behavioral Health Skills Counselor, you will provide in-home, family-centered services including counseling, skill development, and crisis intervention in order to build or restore client linkages with the community, schools, and family, with the goal of alleviating and/or eliminating identified client problems.
You will engage in services and activities designed to provide identification of, and intervention to support families and prevent or alleviate the consequences of family dysfunction. A team approach is emphasized with close coordination with other family/client supports and service providers, including schools.
What you will need:
- A Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field is required.
- Two years of full-time experience in the human services field is required.
What you will do:
- Travel and provide services in client homes or other community settings that may not be handicapped accessible.
- Assess, observe, and document assigned clients’ behaviors and interactions as per agency policies and procedures.
- Provides individual, family and group counseling, skill development, and crisis intervention services to clients.
- Maintains the caseload necessary to reach the billable services expectation established for this position.
- Advocate for and secure specialized services and resources as needed for clients to address identified problem areas.
- Work as a team member in a collaborative effort with other counselors, informal supports and referral sources.
- Serves as a model for the family in demonstrating how to deal with difficult interactions and communications with others.
- Establishes positive relationships and networks within assigned service area.
- Submits and keeps current a weekly work schedule of client sessions, meetings, and office hours.
- Works varied hours, including evenings.
- Meets regularly with Behavioral Health Intervention Service’s program director for supervision.
- Supports and helps facilitate interagency and community referrals for treatment services.
- Serves as a resource to other staff within the agency on programs and services available in their service area.
