CDC Field Epidemiology Evaluation and Data Management Fellowship

A research opportunity is currently available with the Monitoring, Assessment and Evaluation (MAE) unit of the Evaluation, Policy, Innovations and Curriculum (EPIC) team in the Workforce Institute and Development Branch (WIDB) of the Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) within the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.
The participant will receive training in CDC's global health capacity building programs by collecting and analyzing information about the impact that implementation of Field and Epidemiology Training Programs (FETP) has on the public health work of graduates specifically and on the public health system in general. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will focus on evaluating FETP implementation at the Frontline or Intermediate tiers, evaluating the training of the mentors that support FETP implementation, and assessing the contributions of the programs in the response to public health threats. The participant can expect to gain skills in (1) developing evaluation methods and tools; (2) implementing FETP evaluations and; (3) analyzing the information and communicating findings to technical and lay audiences through written and oral products by participating in team, branch and division-level planning meetings.
The fellow would participate in branch, team and special-interest groups for monitoring and evaluation of FETP. The participant will be involved in the following activities:
- Updating of FETP quarterly data requests and annual reports;
- Entering and analyzing data in MAE databases; and
- Other appropriate related activities.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: Summer/Fall 2020
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
