Technical Communications Specialist



At IFT a Technical Communication Specialist is a research administration role that acts as an intermediary between clients and engineers. This position often describes complex scientific or technical topics, so the successful candidate must have experience with scientific or technical writing and can quickly grasp the overall product vision. This position is highly engaged in team communications that occur throughout proposal development to ensure timely and effective submissions. Thus, having good management, organization, communication, and technical writing skills is essential.

The candidate is expected to possess the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, and contribute to innovative ideas/writing in order to improve proposals. This position typically requires a B.S. degree or higher with 2+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Research Masters or Ph.D preferred).

Specific duties include:
• Leading and supporting research proposals including: (1) coordinating, providing original and innovative ideas/writing, gathering datasets, identifying resources and editing of non-technical sections, (2) support for technical sections as requested, (3) strategies for marketing/incorporating graphics and figures into proposal documents, (4) coordinating and planning meetings with the research team, developing a roadmap to meet proposal submission deadlines.
• Interfacing with customers to ascertain the design requirements.
• Documenting and communicating design choices to fellow engineers and the customer.
• Communicating progress on projects and products with clients via presentations, whitepapers, and media.
• Communicating with our engineers to understand a wide variety of technology and concepts.
