The Office of Auditor of State's mission is to serve as the Taxpayers' Watchdog and our work is to help ensure government officials use taxpayer dollars for the intended purposes to benefit the public.
We provide accurate and timely audits of the financial operations of Iowa's state and local governments to help ensure that government is open and accountable to its citizens.

All work is performed in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards and the duties of an entry-level auditor are performed under the direction of an experienced in-charge auditor and will be under the general supervision of an audit manager.
Audit staff work a hybrid office schedule, three days in the office and 2 days from home.

An auditor's work will vary depending on the audit engagement. it can range from the audit of a small city to the audit of a large state agency or a state university. Overnight travel is required and expenses are reimbursed up to State of Iowa limits

Mentoring program, continuing education and an excellent benefits package are provided as well as opportunities for advancement. 
Additional pay is awarded for passing the CPA, including the ethics exam, the CIA exam, or the CFE exam.
