Rotation Program - Finance Rotation Analyst (Cedar Rapids, IA)

About this position:

The Finance Rotation Program Analyst will serve the Accounting, Treasury, and Financial Analysis teams in an intensive four-year program spanning four assignments that will prepare entry level team members for broad and impactful roles in finance at GreatAmerica. The analyst will work directly in four areas of finance, becoming familiar with the core financial drivers of the Company, financial operations and accounting, capital market strategies, and strategic decision making. Through challenging job assignments, formal training, and mentorship, this program is designed to accelerate the development of exceptional technical, financial, business and leadership skills.
Individuals in this role will gain exposure to GreatAmerica’s executive leadership and other key senior leaders while developing cross-functional knowledge. Upon successful completion of the program, individuals will have the opportunity to assume a challenging and impactfull role based on organizational needs which could include (1) Accountant (2) Financial Analyst, (3) Treasury Analyst, and (4) Financial Strategist-type roles.

Essential Functions of 12-month Rotational Assignments
It is expected that this individual serve as a fully contributing member of the functional area of rotation. Based upon development needs of the analyst selected to enter the program as well as functional needs of the organization, training may be customized to obtain desired outcomes.
A high level overview of the areas of rotation and scope is as follows:

Accounting: Assist in the responsibility for ensuring that generally accepted accounting principles are followed in the preparation and presentation of financial reports as well as providing reporting to certain GreatAmerica customers. Work alongside senior accountants on impactful projects and strategic initiatives. Key experiences:
  1. Fundamentals of accounting and financial reporting
  2. Technical accounting research
  3. Accounting for special purpose entities
  4. Strategic business partnering and education
Treasury: Monitor and administer the company’s financing arrangements while helping to maintain strong lender relationships.Additionally, this position will support the strategic initiatives and projects of the Treasury team. Key experiences:
  1. Cash management operations and strategy
  2. Capital planning strategies and bank relationships
  3. Interest rate and interest expense forecasting, risk mitigation and optimization
  4. Contract eligibility, strategy, and covenants of the company’s financing arrangements
Business Unit Financial Analyst: Serve as interface between the finance department and the business unit on activities with respect to financial controls, evaluating the financial implications of the business unit’s operating strategy and providing planning and support to meet the business unit’s overall performance targets. Key experiences:
  1. Front-line exposure and business acumen
  2. Philosophy on balance of profitability and growth
  3. Business strategy, analysis, and influence
  4. Nickels and Dimes of Leasing
Corporate Finance: Evaluate the financial implications of strategic opportunities, evaluate the company and its business units’ operating strategies, and provide planning, analysis, and support to meet the company’s overall performance targets. Key experiences:
  1. Strategic opportunity decision-support
  2. Exposure to big picture and key business drivers
  3. Budgeting / forecasting process
  4. Strategic initiative and project leadership

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA, MBA, or other related advanced degrees and certifications a plus.
Experience: New college graduate to 1-3 years accounting, treasury, and/or finance experience 
Computer Skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Other Requirements: Must have exceptional analytical and problem solving skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and possess outstanding computer skills. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Role will likely include periodic large project oriented demands with tight deadlines requiring more than standard work hours and the need to respond quickly. Must be an organized, creative team-player with initiative who responds well to challenges. Must demonstrate sound business judgment.
