GPS Safety and Regulatory Support

This seeks a motivated scientist or senior scientist to join the Global Product Stewardship organization supporting Fabric and Home Care. The primary role is to provide human safety and regulatory supports for F&HC project teams to ensure regulatory compliance and consumer safety during consumer studies, clinical/preclinical safety studies, and in market, as well as resolution of real and/or perceived in market challenges working with other F&HC GPS members as well as R&D teams.
 
Key responsibilities:
 
    * Support current and upstream R&D and business initiatives for F&HC in one or more categories, on a regional and global basis as required.
    * Primary owner and accountable for category project knowledge including key technologies/ingredients, potential safety concerns and regulatory constraints relevant to regions where product is to be distributed or sold, in market safety profile, external concerns etc.
    * Expected to independently, and/or in collaboration with senior toxicologists, design, execute, and interpret preclinical and clinical safety data to ensure there is sufficient safety program to establish consumer safety of regional and/or globally marketed F&HC products as well as safety-related product claims and external defense, and to define robust strategies for regulatory compliance working with senior regulatory managers.
    * Partner with Sector GPS, R&D, QA, ER and other key functions (microbiology and analytical) and use expertise to enable timely, scientifically found safety and regulatory guidance and resolution of safety and regulatory issues and external challenges as they arise.
    * Assist Consumer Relations and Safety Surveillance in communicating safety-related information to consumers and medical professionals who contact P&G. 
 
 

PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology or equivalent bioscience background with risk assessment training/experience is preferred although other life science degrees will be considered. Excellent communication skills are needed in order to convey positions clearly and explain complex technical issues in a manner suitable to a variety of internal customers as well as to external organizations. The individual needs to collaborate effectively and build strong relationships with a variety of partners across functions, regionally and globally. Candidates must excel in an environment with a rapid pace and constantly shifting priorities. Strong leadership is needed to develop and convey robust, principle-based positions while respecting questions or ideas from others. Understanding of potential toxicities, mechanisms of action, and target tissues of specific product active ingredients and inactive ingredients for products supported. Ability to identify potential safety issues with new or currently marketed products (based on evaluation of consumer comment data) and manage any risks/issues in a proactive manner.
 
The individual in this role needs to be adept at utilizing company systems, particularly GPS-owned systems, as well as adapting to new systems. An understanding of the initiative process is also required, including timelines and when/how to provide Safety positions in order to guide teams proactively. Understanding of GLP and GCP regulations that govern product development and conduct of product and ingredient safety evaluation, both human and animal testing. Ability to use this understanding toward the placement and interpretation of safety studies. Passion to grow personal capability and develop the organization. Ability to proactively identify skill/capability gaps and develop a learning plan to expand knowledge. Interest in sharing knowledge with others and seeking innovative ways to capture learning through system and work process improvements. The individual in this role must be able to independently formulate logical and data-based safety positions, to communicate them clearly and manage questions in real time or discern when escalation or other internal expert engagement is needed. Proactive and agile project leadership, trouble shooting and solution-driving skills will contribute to success in this assignment.
