Line Staff/Counselor (Floater)

The current vacancies are floater positions. This means that applicants will know their schedules two weeks in advance; during that time, they will work different shifts and help maintain the staff/client ratio mandated by the state. This is a starter position and will lead to a set schedule.
These positions are part of a team that oversee the safety and security of, up to, thirty-nine delinquent youth. Security is of the utmost importance. All employees are expected to maintain a high level of security during all activities: recreation, meals, group sessions, movement of population, and room confinement. Applicants must possess strong verbal and written skills so concise information can be shared and shift activities documented. All personnel are required to transport youth to/from court dates and doctor appointments. All employees are trained in officer safety tactics due to the possibility of having to restrain juveniles.
The mission of the Mary Davis Detention Home is to maintain a safe and secure environment and to create a positive impact on all residents through programming that will promote change and self-worth.
We meet our mission by counseling and building a rapport while maintaining a caring but professional role with the youth in our care. All employees actively participate in our programmatic standards which promotes positive choices. Also, through one-on-one counseling and group sessions, we challenge our clients' thinking, assist them in building their cognitive skills, and help in the development of their problem-solving skills. This is all done with the end goal of our youth taking their improved decision-making abilities with them as they return home.
