Intern - Analytics

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

JOB TITLE: Intern – Analytics
PAY RANGE: $15.00 - $20.00

By applying to this requisition, you will be considered for multiple analytics internships in which you are qualified. Most internships are for Summer 2021, with some opportunities for part-time work throughout the school year.
 
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Location: Internships will vary between the Kansas City, Missouri and Topeka, KS areas. Evergy offers a housing stipend to eligible interns to assist in covering costs of short-term summer housing.

Below is a summary list of opportunities we may have available for analytics students:
 
AUTOMATION ANALYST
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operational Analytics, this position is part of the team devoted to automating business processes, executing third-party analytics projects and delivering information services to Evergy’s Distribution Power Delivery and Transmission organizations. Working within a Center of Excellence model, this position will build cross-functional relationships to iteratively collaborate, simplify processes and develop innovative analytical and automation solutions with the goal to improve accuracy, speed, consistency and reliability.
·        Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities by analyzing and understanding data and processes.
  • Assess feasibility for internal automation opportunities. Technically scope problems and optimal solutions.
  • Design, develop, document and test solutions to automate processes, activities, and tasks through RPA using programming languages and available platforms to deliver operations efficiencies.
  • Iteratively collaborate across colleagues and customers during product development and QA to make sure it fits design and solves business problems.
·        Perform other work as assigned.

DATA SCIENTIST/BUSINESS ANALYST
In this role, you will learn about the importance of data, how to turn it into “information” and glean insights to make better decisions. You also may be asked to develop robotic process automation (RPA, aka smart bots) to streamline work tasks.
·        Build smart bots using WorkFusion
·        Learn about data
·        Develop models/algorithms for more informed decision making
·        Attend/participate in internal analytics training
 
PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS
Work in conjunction with Engineers and Data Scientists to analyze data related to distribution system reliability. May utilize skills in data preparation, statistics and predictive modeling. Will assist in developing algorithms and processes to be used in risk-based maintenance practices. 
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university or technical program. Candidates focusing within Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Data Science, Statistics or disciplines may be more technically inclined. All candidates who can demonstrate passion around automation, critical thinking and problem solving will be considered.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
·        Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills. 
·        Strong investigative, problem solving and analytical skills with ability to extract key themes and determine root causes.
·        Ability to understand business process workflow diagrams or procedural documentation.
·        Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.
·        Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and databases preferred. 
·        Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.
 
Working Conditions:
Most work will be performed within an office environment, but conditions may vary between office and field environments. Time will be spent in an office as well as the field environment with hands-on work. Travel will be required to support field personnel. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
