SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

JOB TITLE: Intern – Business
PAY RANGE: $15.00 - $18.00

By applying to this requisition, you will be considered for multiple Business internships in which you are qualified. Most internships are for Summer 2021, with some opportunities for part-time work throughout the school year.
 
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday,8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Location: Internships will vary between the Kansas City, Missouri and Topeka, KS areas. Evergy offers a housing stipend to eligible interns to assist in covering costs of short-term summer housing.

Below is a summary list of opportunities we may have available for business students:
 
AUDIT SERVICES
Under general supervision, perform testing to assess the operating effectiveness of the company’s business process controls over financial reporting. Testing responsibilities include sampling, obtaining documentation, interviewing, preparing work papers to support the testing performed, and concluding on test results. May also be responsible for performing internal audit work as well as routine clerical functions.
 
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Reporting to the Director, Integration Success, the Continuous Improvement (CI) department at Evergy acts as an internal process improvement consulting group and has enterprise responsibility for aiding in the implementation of Continuous Improvement tools and techniques. This department will will enable confident, fact-based decisions and help to drive efficient and effective processes that deliver value. When new areas for potential improvement are identified, the team guides teams through efforts to streamline and optimize the process utilizing project management and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) techniques. The successful intern will participate in all aspects of CI delivery including data analysis and visualizations, improvement facilitation, and team participation.
·     Participate in and gain exposure to continuous improvement techniques including:
o   Process and Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, 5S, Six Sigma, Hoshin, and others
·     Monitors, participates and reports on Continuous Improvement projects/initiatives
·     Data Analysis and Visualization using Excel, PowerBI, and other tools as needed

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
The Diversity and Inclusion Intern will report directly to the Director of Diversity and Inclusion in partnership to advocate for inclusion, diversity and equity at Evergy while establishing and leveraging external outreach initiatives to support workforce and workplace needs of the organization.
The Diversity and Inclusion department reports directly to the President and CEO and works closely with HR, Marketing, Supply Chain, Public Affairs, Legal and other organizational leader to enhance company-wide workforce planning, recruitment, branding, inclusion, development and retention of well-qualified diverse and representative workforce. More specifically, the Diversity and Inclusion Intern will work to support the office in the following ways:
·        Serve as an active idea-generator for solutions targeted at increasing inclusion, diversity and equity
·        Identify, develop and implement strategies that attract and retain minority talent
·        Compile data into graphical representations in collaboration with various departments
·        Assess data for descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytical purposes
·        Build and leverage partnerships among the 7 BRGs (Business Resource Groups)
 
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The incumbent reports to the Senior Manager, Economic Development. The Economic Development Department is responsible for growing revenue by actively engaging and assisting local economic development organizations with community readiness projects. Works daily with state, regional and local economic development organizations to attract and retain businesses in Evergy’s service area. This position supports economic development managers in carrying out their economic development and related community involvement objectives. The intern position will be responsible for the following projects:
·        Creating a searchable database to collect and organize EDR contracts
·        Update complete listing of economic development organizations across Evergy’s service area and update in ED Tracker.
·        Update real estate records in LOIS to reflect Evergy’s updated company name and contact information
·        Write copy for location announcements or local partner investments for Evergy TV
·        Create ESRI BOA Infographics Templates to be utilized by Evergy economic Development Team
·        Represent Evergy at various industry meetings, conferences and events.
 
ENERGY TRADING ANALYST
Evergy Energy Partners (EEP) is an innovative and exciting department to work for at Evergy. EEP is responsible for the management of over 70 generating units across the eastern half of the United States generating over $1 billion in revenue per year. Our team creates significant value for Evergy’s customers and shareholders by trading in the power and natural gas markets. EEP also purchases annually 12 million tons of coal and over 40 billion cubic feet of natural gas and transports these commodities to generating units across the country.
  • Research opportunities to improve processes that will enhance and bring value to the team
  • Learn and implement strategies and ideas for financial trading decisions in power and natural gas markets
  • Develop tools in databases and spreadsheets that will enhance the team’s ability
  • Gain knowledge of scheduling railcar sets from the coal mine to the power plant
  • Learn how physical natural gas is procured and transported across the pipeline infrastructure
  • Learn to maintain and build forecasting models for buy and sell strategies in the financial markets
  • Collaborate on strategy developments to increases revenues and decreases our customers’ costs
  • Assist with presentations and reports for our internal and external customers and executive management
 
HUMAN RESOURCES
The HR Intern will work on a variety of talent management projects as needed within the human resource functions of Workforce Planning, Diversity, Recruiting, Training and Organizational Development. 
  • Research current issues related to talent management and diversity & inclusion
  • Work with hiring managers and candidates to schedule interviews
  • Assist in coordinating and planning summer intern program
  • Review resumes in applicant tracking system to recruit qualified candidates
  • Assist with building partnerships with school districts, post-secondary education institutions, various community partners
  • Assist in outreach efforts, community relations and strategic partnerships
  • Assist with training and benefits related projects as needed
  • Routine project administrative functions and other special projects as they come up
 
OPERATIONS STRATEGY
The Operations Strategy Intern will provide support for Evergy’s strategic plans and initiatives. This support will take various forms ranging from conceptualization through execution. 
·        Market research and analysis
·        Presentation development
·        Various project administration functions (e.g. meeting notes, action items lists)
 
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
An intern in the products and services group will learn what Evergy does to provide customers options to better manage and use their energy. Our group is charged with helping customers save energy and money by first informing customers of their energy use through education and then making it easy to take action in form of our programs. This role will report to an existing Product Manager within the group and focus on digital products that support the customer in their energy awareness and engagement.
·        Researching industry best practices for utility use of digital tools to drive customer satisfaction and overall engagement
·        Customer journey and demographic analysis of existing participants in online electric rate offerings
·        Support related to Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS)
o  Integrating Google Nest and ecobee thermostats into DERMS for tracking
o  Business customer electric usage interface
·        Support implementation of a web-based energy information tool for business customers
 
REGULATORY AFFAIRS
We are seeking an energetic, responsible intern to join our Regulatory Affairs team. In this position, you will be expected to help us empower a better future for our customers and our region. Evergy seeks to become the best energy company. As an Intern in our department you will be asked to learn and contribute to supporting the regulatory needs of a Fortune 500 energy company and participate/lead projects delivering real results, contributing to our organization’s success. Projects will be analytical and technical in nature, likely utilizing new applications and processes. You will work with Regulatory leaders and subject matter experts to achieve results.
  • Provide support for executive or corporate requirements by contributing to special project studies, analyses and reports as required.
  • Provide contributions leading to successful completion of multifaceted projects within economic and time constraints.
  • Support the development/ implementation/ maintenance of regulatory systems.
  • Develop innovative solutions designed to streamline/enhance processes and procedures geared toward greater efficiency and effectiveness of the Regulatory department
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned.
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program in Business (Business Administration, Human Resource, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Economics) or related field.
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
·        Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills. 
·        Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.
·        Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint preferred. 
 
Working Conditions:
Normal office working environment with occasional daytime travel to other Evergy locations.
