Intern - Conservation and Sustainability

JOB TITLE: Intern, Conservation and Sustainability Program

LOCATION: Topeka, KS
PAY RANGE: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
                                                                                               
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, flexible hours

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Conservation and Sustainability Intern supports the Corporate-level Conservation and Sustainability Department in the implementation of environmental stewardship, conservation, sustainability, and education initiatives. Specifically, the selected candidate will support the Conservation and Sustainability Program in areas of project planning and implementation, land or wildlife management, recycling, business sustainability initiatives, volunteer coordination, and community engagement activities. Field work may involve equipment and power tool operation, construction work environments, habitat assessment and management, project management, as well as significant manual labor.
 
The selected candidate may also support the department in compliance related initiatives. Compliance programs may include wastewater treatment and permitting, coal combustion waste handling and disposal, distribution power delivery support, air permitting and compliance, industrial hygiene, and conservation. Miscellaneous duties for other programs may be assigned as required.
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
A student actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Masters degree in environmental studies, sustainability, life science, industrial/environmental/bio-ag engineering or other related field. A sophomore, junior, senior or graduate level student with Microsoft or equivalent software skills is preferred.
 
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
Must be comfortable with computers and new technology and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Must be professional, dependable, self-motivated and have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with program managers, co-workers and other required contacts. 
 
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
 
Working Conditions:
The work environment will be both office and fieldwork. Must have excellent work record including good attendance and good safety record.
