Intern - Supply Chain

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS 
 
JOB TITLE: Intern- Supply Chain  
PAY RANGE: $15.00- $18.00 
 
By applying to this requisition, you will be considered for multiple Supply Chain internships in which you are qualified. Most internships are for Summer 2021, with some opportunities for part-time work throughout the school year.

Scheduled Work Hours: Flexible hours between Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 

Location: Internships will vary between the Kansas City, Missouri and Topeka, KS areas. Evergy offers a housing stipend to eligible interns to assist in covering costs of short-term summer housing.

Below is a summary list of opportunities we may have available for supply chain students:
 
Supplier Diversity
The Supplier Diversity Intern will be part of the Supplier Diversity Team who is responsible for the oversight of the corporate Supplier Diversity Program. Supplier Diversity programs recognize that sourcing products and services from diverse suppliers helps to sustain and progressively transform a company's supply chain, thus quantitatively reflecting the demographics of the community in which it operates by recording transactions with diverse suppliers.
·        Supplier Diversity Intern will coordinate with the procurement department to promote the utilization of diverse businesses, which may include small and/or disadvantaged businesses, and woman-owned or minority-owned businesses, veteran owned, 8A, LGBT and Hub Zone as well as solicit and distribute referrals.
·        Develops and supports market strategies and industry knowledge for all aspects of the supplier diversity program.
·        Assists team with achieving company corporate SD goals.
·        Research and analysis of suppliers that want to do business with Evergy
  • Reach out to suppliers to ensure they're registered in our Supplier Diversity Tool
  • Assist with event planning and trade shows; some travel may be required
  • Attending Procurement one on ones and Business opportunity fairs
  • Provide input towards the development of a computer-based supplier diversity training module
  • Complete special projects within the Supplier Diversity Team as needed
  • Support the implementation process of a new Supplier Diversity Tool
 
 
Sourcing Specialist
The Sourcing Specialist Intern will serve as the local day-to-day representative of Procurement for a primary business location (e.g., a major power plant), or for a designated function (e.g., a set of Delivery or Corporate customers) for emergent and near-term needs.
This position is the liaison between Supply Chain and the localized business interests and/or other corporate stakeholders. The position builds strong business relationships with their designated customer group or business location by being the primary procurement contact ensuring innovative and cost-effective sourcing and contracting. Sourcing and contracting outcomes should provide the best match for the business need identified, minimize legal and business risk and provide a favorable benefit-cost relationship.
· Serve as a local liaison for procurement
·    Participate with business partners in planning discussions. Clarify sourcing requirements/ opportunities.
· Source and contract for low to moderately complex (e.g., dollar value, risk, visibility, mission-criticality) products and services, often as part of a cross-functional team, in a manner consistent with category strategies (if any) and plans that generates economic value and reduced risk:
·    Develop RFPs consistent with needs of the business and long-term strategies and plans
·    Identify potential suppliers (including diverse suppliers), evaluating supplier qualifications and internal support for inclusion
·    Keep stakeholders apprised of plans and status of sourcing events. Serve as exclusive supplier contact during RFPs, leading pre-bid meetings, responding to supplier questions, etc. as needed
·    Under the guidance of their manager, lead cross-functional team in developing of evaluation criteria
·    Analyze and evaluate pricing and commercial proposals
·    Develop negotiation plan, and award recommendation
·    Develop contract documents to conform to Company policies and procedures, reflect negotiated agreement, reduce risk and assure required performance
·    Review contracts with stakeholders to manage specific risks and assure agreement with proposed terms and conditions
 
Supply Chain Analytics
As a Supply Chain Analytics summer intern, you will be asked to complete a variety of tasks and may work on several projects simultaneously with our Procurement or Materials Management areas. The position provides various supply chain analyses, internal/external market research, as well as data and process analysis with our Supply Chain teams. Participants will have opportunities to interact with employees at all levels of our organization. Projects will be focused around the following items but not limited to:
·        Data analysis and visualizations using Microsoft PowerBI or similar tools
o  Linking changing market impacts to cost management opportunities
o  Performing spend analysis
o  Demand planning and inventory analysis
o  Logistics analysis
·        Procurement/materials business process mapping
o  Determine and measuring key performance indicators
o  Identifying opportunities for improvement
·        Strategic sourcing
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
Progress towards degree in Supplier Diversity, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Communications, Sociology, or HR/Business related degree required. Fundamental understanding in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Engineering or business operations. Experience in the energy, utilities, manufacturing or construction industry is a plus, but not a requirement.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
·        Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications with advanced Excel skills
·        Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as a part of a Team
·        Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and complete assignments with tight deadlines
·        Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
·        Excellent oral and written communication skills
·        Must possess basic analytical skills
·        Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills. 
·        Ability to organize and execute sourcing events involving a cross-functional team environment. 
·        Ability to apply basic understanding of procurement, risk management, negotiating and contracting principles, and best practices including applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures to achieve successful results
·        Basic financial and analytical skills, and effective oral and written communication, interpersonal and influence skills. 
·        Effective in using Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
·        Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.
·        Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.
