Vice President of Patient Care Services

Southwest Medical Center of Liberal, KS invites applications for the role of Vice President of Patient Care Services. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a thriving medical center committed to providing the highest quality of care for our 5 state region.

Southwest Medical Center is a 101-bed acute care facility which fosters an engaging work environment focused on providing excellent care to our patients. We are committed to caring for our diverse community by expanding care services & investing in the best technology to meet the needs of our patients and medical providers. Our central location allows us to provide services to the residents of 5 states including Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. Our population is about 23,000 people; however our service area reaches about 91,000 people. Located in Liberal, Kansas, Southwest Medical Center (SWMC) operates as a not-for-profit acute care hospital. One of our continuing goals is to provide "Quality Healthcare Close to Home." We are a Joint Commission accredited regional medical center. Some of our services include anesthesiology and pain management, adult and pediatric hospitalist services, OB/GYN services, diagnostic imaging services with interventional radiologist on staff, general surgery and bariatric services, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedic and sports medicine, physical and therapeutic therapies, sleep disorders lab, urology, and wound care center with hyperbaric treatment. We are an Emergency Stroke Ready Hospital and partner with Wesley Care Telemedicine Network providing stroke and neurology services. We have several outreach clinics located in our facility which include 2 cancer centers, a cardiology clinic, and a pediatric cardiology clinic. We also support many communities in the region by providing outreach services to local areas. Our services continue to expand as our community grows.

Liberal, Kansas is a friendly, diverse community. We are centrally located about 2.5 hours from Amarillo, TX, 3 hours from Wichita, KS, 4 Hours from Oklahoma City, OK, 5 hours from Red River, NM, and 6 Hours from Denver, CO. We have a local airport that connects to Denver, Colorado and another airport an hour north that travels to Dallas, TX. 

Liberal Public Schools (Unified School District 480) operates twelve public schools in the city. Liberal High School is ranked 7th within Kansas. The Liberal sports teams compete in Class 5A.  Our public school system recently built 5 new school buildings that opened in 2017. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement and concurrent college credit course work and exams. There is one private school located in Liberal. Seward County Community College/Area Technical School offers Associate and Technical degrees.

Our community offers many avenues to recreation and entertainment with local shops and restaurants, Liberal Bee Jays minor league baseball team, numerous parks, a movie theater, Adventure Bay pool and waterpark, 3 area golf courses including miniature golf, a bowling alley, Dorothy's House and Land of Oz, Baker Arts Center, Coronado Museum, and more!

The Vice President of Patient Care Services, under the direction of the CEO is responsible for the management, direction, and supervision of all nursing services, social services, education, home care, employee health, infection control, risk management, and quality improvement functions and activities. The VP of Patient Care Services is knowledgeable of social, economic, and legal issues effecting the health care systems and seeks all opportunities for keeping staff up to date in health care practices.    

Candidates should possess a current Registered Nurse license in the state of Kansas and be a graduate of a state accredited school of nursing, BSN minimum, with a Master’s degree or equivalent education preferred. The VP of Patient Care Services should have a minimum of 5/7 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse with comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice with a minimum of 5 years supervisor experience with demonstrated leadership and management ability. Basic Life Support and communication skills necessary to provide appropriate information to patients served is required.
