Compliance Summer Internship

Overview

For the last 11 years, Cambridge has recruited highly talented interns from across the country to join us during the summer for a 10-12 week internship. Each year, 25-30 interns join us for a full-time, paid internship experience at our home office in Fairfield, Iowa. This year, we are also recruiting interns for our Phoenix, Arizona office. The Next Step internship program gives students practical insight into the financial services industry. Students are partnered with a professional mentor, supervisor, and executive champion and participate in trainings on industry basics and trends, along with professional development courses and opportunities to job shadow other departments across Cambridge. At the conclusion of the internship, each intern will have the opportunity to present on their experience and a specific project of their choice.

  • Volunteer time: Each intern will be allowed up to eight hours of paid time off for the summer to volunteer for activities that support community events and activities.

  • Social events: Interns have the option to participate in local social events with other interns and home office associates.
  • Networking events: Interns have the opportunity to network with our top executives during the Welcome and End of Summer Banquets. Interns will get the chance to learn from our top leaders and ask questions. Interns also have the ability to do job shadows with other teams at Cambridge. Upon the completion of the internship program, interns will also have access to the Next Step Intern Alumni LinkedIn Group to stay in touch with Cambridge and other interns that have gone through the program.

Essential Duties

The Compliance department is comprised of a number of teams that are responsible for supporting regulatory compliance while providing excellent service to our Cambridge financial professionals and internal associates. The Compliance teams include advertising, anti-money laundering, compliance support services, compliance communications, compliance technology, external audit, outside activity review, registration and licensing, resource center, and surveillance. Working with the Compliance department allows our interns to learn the basic functions of a broker dealer as they relate to the regulatory environment we work in and how to service financial professional clients in the environment successfully.
 
We have one Compliance Internship opening located in the Fairfield, IA office.
 
As the Compliance Intern, you will:
  • Contribute to all of the compliance teams listed above
  • Follow up on communications that come from our external audit supervisor visits
  • Assist our surveillance team with running reports and completing tasks to record our supervision of trading activity for Cambridge financial professionals and clients
  • Update information in our internal systems for our Registration and Licensing team and our Advertising team
  • Perform website reviews for our Advertising team
  • Participate in the acceptance process with other departments including Advocacy & Supervision and Business Development.

Education & Experience

Students studying finance or similar majors will likely be the most successful in this role.
 
Qualifications: 
Undergraduate students graduating in August 2022 or later are eligible for this internship.
