Internship - Geotechnical Engineering Focus

Summary

Barr is seeking an engineering student to work on projects involving geotechnical engineering and related technical assignments. Project assignments may include geotechnical and civil design and analysis, geotechnical investigation oversight, construction oversight, field data collection, selection and interpretation of laboratory testing, preparation of contracts, construction plans, and specifications, spreadsheet preparation, and writing reports. The work may involve out-of-town assignments. All applicants must attach transcripts to their application. This position can be based in Minneapolis, MN or Duluth, MN.

Minimum Qualifications

  • GPA of 3.2/4.0
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • At least two semesters of physics, and three semesters of mathematics
  • Ongoing enrollment in an ABET accredited civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering degree program
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office software
  • Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness and timeliness of results
  • Thorough, organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated approach
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to rent a car for out of town assignments

Preferred Qualifications

  • GPA of 3.5/4.0
  • Familiarity with gINT and modeling software (such as GeoStudio, FLAC, Plaxis)
  • Completed at least one semester of upper division (junior/senior level) engineering coursework

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites or working on tall structures or with industrial equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on such sites.
