Social Media Community Coordinator (Remote, FT or PT)

Wingnut Social is a social media marketing agency in the U.S. that has always been fully remote. We serve clients primarily in the interior design industry, but are also expanding to other industries. This is an entry-level position (could be full-time or part-time) that plays a crucial role in increasing engagement on our clients’ and our own social media accounts, as well as growing followers of the accounts. The social media community coordinator primary task will be responding to comments on clients accounts and commenting on others’ posts on social media as our clients. Along with other engagement techniques, this helps to create a community of fans on social that are ready to engage.

The ideal candidate for this position loves engaging on social media, especially Instagram, and can quickly craft witty comments in a variety of voices (some formal, others highly casual). This candidate is also interested in marketing and social media and eager to take on other tasks for the organization as needed.

This is an entry-level position, good for current college students or recent graduates in PR, social media or marketing. The candidate must have experience working in social media.

Responsibilities (subject to change)
  • Responding to comments on our client’s social media posts.
  • Finding and commenting on others’ posts as our clients.
  • Liking and following posts and accounts as our clients on social media.
  • Manually unfollowing accounts that did not follow you back.
  • Possibly creating graphics for Wingnut Social marketing and clients.
  • Finding user generated content (UGC)  that we can share on our clients’ accounts.
  • At least one weekday evening of checking comments periodically, and roughly one weekend per month. This does not require continual working, instead the employee will check in and respond several times throughout the evening or day.
  • Assisting with other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Assisting with other marketing and social media tasks as needed.
  • Answering phones (minimal, only a couple of calls per shift).

Required Skills
  • Completed or in progress for a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, social media or journalism.
  • Some work or volunteer experience (including internships) in marketing, social media or PR.
  • Extremely high level of written American English. Position requires the ability to write quickly responding to social media comments on the fly without time to check over them. Must be able to produce written work quickly with no errors.
  • Must be able to write in different voices for different clients and switch between formal and informal English quickly, using American social media slang.
  • A strong aesthetic eye. Able to quickly evaluate which photos are likely to perform best on Instagram and why.
  • Must be highly proficient in social media, especially Instagram. Must have a strong understanding of social media apps and how to get engagement on social media.
  • Must be technologically competent and quickly able to figure out new software.
  • Excellent spoken English.

Preferred Skills
  • Basic to Intermediate graphic design skills
  • Basic to intermediate photo editing skills
  • Experience with social media management software (such as Sprout Social)
  • Experience using a project management software (such as Asana)
  • Interest in or knowledge of interior design


Pay rate
$12-14 per hour based on experience
