Elections Assistant - Absentee Ballot Count Team

THE POSITION
Hennepin County's Resident and Real Estate Services (RRES) Department is seeking applicants to fill seasonal Elections Assistant - Absentee Ballot Count Team positions in preparation for the state general election (11/3/2020). The Elections Assistants must be non-partisan and be able to provide excellent customer service, use technical and analytical skills, and perform a variety of administrative functions. RRES is looking for individuals interested in election administration and government processes.
 
Elections Assistants will assist staff in processing returned absentee ballot envelopes and processing and counting of absentee ballots for the state general election.

About the position type:
These positions are seasonal, temporary, limited-duration, non-benefit earning with a timeframe of October 19, 2020 to November 10, 2020. 

Location and hours: 
These positions are located at the 701 Building located at 701 4th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Work hours will vary during regular business hours Monday through Friday, with possible overtime as needed and assigned.
 
In these positions, you will:
  • Process a high volume of time sensitive election material.
  • Review returned absentee ballots to ensure they meet the requirements to be counted.
  • Open and process absentee materials for a three-week period.
  • Record statistics related to absentee ballots that have been processed.
  • Duplicate UOCAVA ballots onto standard ballot stock to be counted.
  • Count absentee ballots. 
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
  • One year or more of office clerical experience (or part time experience equal to two or more years of full-time experience).
  • Completion of one or more years of post-high school education.
  • An approved combination of education (3 semester credits = 1 month) and experience to equal one year or more.
  • Six months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program
  • Six months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Healthcare Clerical Pathway Training program.
Nice to have:
  • Experience working in elections or local government. 
  • Experience working accurately on a repetitive task.
  • Ability to:
  • Follow instructions completely and accurately.
  • Work in accordance with Minnesota statutes and rules.
  • Work with a diverse group of team members.
  • Understand basic elections policy and procedures.
  • Meet daily deadlines.
  • Use problem solving techniques to complete daily work.
  • Use a computer, with a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
