Park Superintendent II

Examples of Work
Under administrative direction and oversight of the Park Superintendent III, will administer, manage, provide staff for and supervise the outdoor education program which includes: the Missouri National Recreational River Resource and Education Center, Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex, annual events such as the Missouri River Outdoor Expo, and other recreational and educational features and operations within the Ponca State Park. Duties will include overseeing the development and management of interpretive displays, aquariums and other live animal exhibits, cultural and natural resources, educational wayside exhibits and signage, trail maintenance, playgrounds, and oversight of assigned visitor activities. Administer the hiring, training and supervision of a seasonal workforce for assigned areas of responsibility, insuring equal opportunity and labor law, and reporting compliance for all employees and volunteers supervised. Collect data, maintain records and prepare appropriate reports, collect fees, and oversee accounts payable and receivable functions. Assist Park Superintendent III with the development of new interpretive programs to include specialized recreational activities and the development and coordination of education programming and special events. Provide oversight of group conference facilities and rental of same, office management, resale/concessions including Aquatic Center, partner development, and park promotion. Provide input or direction to Supt. III and Regional Supt. IV regarding the planning and development of successful programming at other park areas and agency functions. As assigned, assist with facility and equipment maintenance, housekeeping and custodial work, budget development, grant writing, volunteer recruitment, asset management, master planning, compliance mandates, visitor/employee protection and safety, enforcement activities and public relations tasks. Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree in Park/Recreation Management or a related field, (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, education, public administration, travel and tourism, natural/cultural resource preservation or interpretation, planning), AND 2 years related experience including a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or lead worker capacity. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: the principals and techniques of supervision; federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to park administration; knowledge of natural resource management techniques; educational doctrines and school curriculums, facilities and equipment; application of statistical records and reports; training methods and procedures; work performance or other standards of development; program analysis/evaluation; agency doctrines and long range planning documents/processes; budgeting, financial planning and cost accounting; policy development; various computer programs that can support assigned duty requirements. Skill in: communicating with individuals and groups with varying technical backgrounds and skill sets to collect and relay information, or make work assignments; listening to and understanding others; prioritizing workloads with proper delegation and assignment of accountability; public speaking, interpretation, promotion and marketing of activities and events; conflict resolution; staff training. Ability to: plan, develop, and evaluate outdoor education programs, special events and services; follow directions and assimilate information; plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of supervised staff and contractors; apply federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to park operations; learn and apply agency rules and regulations; collect data and prepare reports for use in operational decisions; interpret, apply and enforce park rules and regulations for visitors and staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, agency staff, external agencies, local community, and special interest groups; demonstrate professionalism; operate basic computer software and hardware.
