2021 Summer Graduate Student Assistant

The Graduate Student Assistant(s) work as summer term law clerks to support the mission of CARB’s Legal Office. They will have the opportunity to attend meetings and engage in projects concerning the most important environmental issues of today, including climate change. They will work closely with and learn from some of the world’s top technical and legal staff in the field of climate change and air quality. Their efforts will contribute to the State’s progress in improving California’s air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The projects available during the summer clerkship term will include conducting research and producing legal documents, such as memoranda and draft regulatory documents, as directed by Legal Office Attorneys, under the ultimate supervision of an Assistant Chief Counsel. Their work is designed to provide the Graduate Student Assistant(s) a meaningful, hands-on professional experience that supplements their academic graduate work and trains them for future positions in any area of law. The Graduate Student Assistant will have the opportunity to explore the stages of policymaking—from rulemaking to enforcement—in greater detail, and be exposed to related areas such as tribal law. Further, the position will provide the Graduate Student Assistant(s) an opportunity to explore the State Capitol.
