The National Pork Board has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects and for communicating with pork producers and the public. The Pork Checkoff funds national and state programs in advertising, consumer information, retail and foodservice marketing, export market promotion, production improvement, technology, swine health, pork safety and environmental management. Reporting to the Director of Strategy & Insights at National Pork Board, the Knowledge Management Intern will actively assist in the deployment of pork industry insights to key stakeholders throughout the pork industry value chain.  As the Knowledge Management Intern, you will play a key role in the development of a centralized, organized, and formalized market intelligence hub to be mined to inform strategy, fuel outreach and engagement work, and create unique value for stakeholders.  This will involve building, organizing, updating and optimizing research studies in National Pork Board’s intelligence center. In addition, you will interface extensively with our Technology, Communications, Science, and Marketing teams.  The position is a paid Internship.  Responsibilities include collecting, organizing, and sharing information.   
 
Specific responsibilities for this role include (above): 
 
  • Enable expanded accessibility to National Pork Board funded and syndicated production, sustainability, and consumer research studies  
  • Work with appropriate parties to identify all publishable research 
  • Assemble all files in a central location and transition studies to NPB’s proprietary knowledge center, including abstracts, reports, presentation files, and any other relevant documents 
  • Develop report summaries, keywords, and meta-tags that enable easy searching 
  • Expand knowledge center database to include research from other enterprise-wide areas 
  • Work with cross-functional teams and appropriate business coordinators to identify relevant studies in areas, such as International Marketing, Emerging Technology, Nutrition, and Quality 
  • Create support documents, including standard operating procedures (intelligence center content management, website integration, etc), research FAQ’s, and training materials, collaborating cross-functionally with research teams, IT, and communications 
  • Administer a brief user survey to assess desired Intelligence center features and benefits  
  • Conduct a synthesis of knowledge management tools and software 
  • Coordinate with the communications team to ensure seamless website integration 
 
Minimum Requirements: 
  • Strong educational background in Library Science, Knowledge Management, or Information Management fields of study. Will also consider students working towards or have recently completed Bachelor of Science in Marketing, Business Administration or Project Management 
  • Be an excellent communicator who can initiate and maintain interactions with the people  
who share their insights and knowledge  
  • Know how to record and store information in a digital format 
  • Very process-oriented, efficiency-minded approach 
  • Very fast learner and high degree of internal motivation 
  • Laser focused on accuracy and detail, with a passion for organization and clarity 
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • Passion for agriculture and/or food is a definite plus! 
 
Criteria for applying: 
  • Internship will be November 30, 2020-April 30, 2021.  
  • Compensation is based on 25 hours per week over the 5-6 month period.  
  • Intern position will be remote and must have reliable Wi-Fi (internet).
