2021 Cooking and the Arts Summer Educator

Job Purpose
The Cooking and the Arts Summer Educator will work with youth and adults in Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O’Brien and Cherokee Counties to deliver and support research-based family and consumer sciences and art-related education and programs in-person and virtually.

Responsibilities of the Cooking and the Arts Summer Educator
  • Provide research-based educational family and consumer sciences and art-related programming by creating lesson plans and implementing curriculum that will lead to positive youth development.
  • Work independently and with other staff to promote Cooking and the Arts programming priorities and to secure and manage necessary resources (volunteers, partners, materials and donations) to support programs in Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O’Brien and Cherokee Counties.
  • Collaborate with other staff to communicate program impacts, primarily through social media, photos and videos.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the 4-H Youth Program Specialist, and keep all staff updated on programming.
  • Provide mid-summer and end-of-summer comprehensive progress reports to staff and Extension Council members.
  • Demonstrate professionalism as an ISU Extension and Outreach professional through image, public relations and networking. 
  • Work on additional programming needs as directed by the 4-H Youth Program Specialist.
  • Commit to serve the entire duration of the 12-week position.

Required qualifications
  • Either a bachelor’s degree in education, a Family and Consumer Science related major or related field to Extension discipline OR an undergraduate sophomore, junior or senior level college student with a major in education, family and consumer sciences, art or a related field
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills
  • Evidence of excellent performance working with and teaching youth and adults in group and classroom settings
  • Strong written and oral communication and customer relation skills
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite Products, Internet, social media, and e-mail applications
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass the background screening to meet the Child Protection and Safety Policy

Additional preferred qualifications
  • Coursework in education with experience in formal and/or non-formal teaching
  • Experience as a user of Extension programs such as 4-H

Work Schedule & Details
The Cooking and the Arts Summer Educator will work 40 hours/week starting May 17, 2021 through August 6, 2021 with a per hour pay rate of $12/hour.

This position is funded by the Extension Councils in Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O’Brien and Cherokee
Counties and may be contracted with other regional counties for services as available.
