Senior Portfolio Accountant

PORTFOLIO ACCOUNTANT
A Boston-based investment manager with a long-term, value-oriented approach has an opening for a Portfolio Accountant. The firm has been thoughtfully stewarding and compounding capital on behalf of families, foundations and endowments, as well as employees who collectively are the firm’s largest client.
My Client manages roughly $28 billion with a broad and flexible charter, investing in a wide range of asset classes, including significant holdings in publicly traded debt and equity securities, private debt, real estate, and private equity.
The ideal candidate for the role should possess the following characteristics and qualifications:
·       Undergraduate or graduate degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or mathematics with at least two years of relevant experience
·       Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability
·       Commitment to excellence and pride in work product
·       Ability to perform technical research and writing and to implement those ideas into actionable processes that are both scalable and repeatable
·       Strong computer skills, particularly Excel; familiarity with programming languages or ability to create macros is a plus
·       Experience in accounting for or auditing investment companies, familiarity with complex portfolios holding diverse asset types is a plus
·       Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with personnel throughout every level of the company
·       Desire to work in the details while also understanding a more macro perspective
·       Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments effectively
·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and documentation skills
This position will be a member of the 28-person Portfolio Valuations, Accounting & Reporting team which is responsible for investment valuations, accounting, NAV calculations, and partner income allocations for eleven partnerships.
Essential functions of this position will include, but are not limited to:
 Understand both the U.S. tax and GAAP treatments of accounting entries
 Design scalable, repeatable, and adaptable processes through personal automation or spreadsheets and/or by collaborating with IT teams on broader applications
·       Process investor capital activity, income allocations, and fees
·       Research GAAP accounting pronouncements
·       Prepare monthly partnership net asset values and returns
·       Assist with the audit process and preparation of annual GAAP financial statements
·       Act as a liaison to the other operational teams
·       Perform other special projects as requested
