Opportunity on Deck Program Expansion AmeriCorps VISTA

Opportunity on Deck serves low-socioeconomic communities by providing free-of-charge athletic opportunities for children and special needs communities by providing adaptive athletic opportunities for children and adults.  Our organization believes that everybody deserves the opportunity to participate in sports and we remove all physical, financial, social and other barriers that prevent people from playing.  Our curriculum is built around positive role model coaches teaching our participants about the importance of teamwork, dedication, healthy living habits and good character.  Opportunity on Deck is moving in January to the brand-new MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex which will feature state-of-the-art recreational facilities for central Iowa, but our work is national with program licenses throughout the United States.  During your service term you will help us continue to build out our national licensing infrastructure, improve our programs and curriculum, assess the effectiveness of programming and contribute to our local marketing and fundraising efforts.  We are looking for someone who is ambitious, independent, analytical, organized, strategic, willing to learn and improve, and has excellent communication skills.  We will provide you with a wide diversity of experiences to expose you to how all areas of non-profits operate and allow you to exercise a lot of decision-making power during your service term.  No sports experience is required, but we will seek for someone who is passionate about our work to join us November 9, 2020 to November 8, 2021.
