Emergency Management Internship/Temporary Position

Performs planning, training, and administrative support work assisting with ongoing Emergency Management efforts. The internship is designed to be both educational and practical applying skills acquired in school to a professional setting while receiving exposure and experience in a wide array of Emergency Management areas, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Deputy Coordinator and Coordinator.

  • Job Duties/Responsibilities:Assists with development of Emergency Management’s capability to use interactions with social media during disaster to improve outcomes.
  • Assists with development of standardized processes for Story County jurisdictions to collect data during a disaster response to facilitate FEMA reimbursement.
  • Assists with the development of policy and procedures to rapidly establish the ability to collect cash donations to support the recovery of a community impacted by a disaster.
  • Participates in various research projects and/or special projects as assigned.
  • Assists with the development of plans, training, and exercises.
  • Assists with execution of daily emergency management administrative duties.
  • Assists with other emergency management related projects as time permits.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; and pursuing and undergraduate or graduate degree in Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, Public Administration, or related field. Internship candidates should have at least 1 years of academic undergraduate studies left to complete.
 
A non-collegiate candidate should have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, previous experience with disaster response and recovery operations and/or a familiarity with first responder organizations.

Valid driver's license/Proof of vehicle insurance
