Field Geologist

Summary
The person in this position will work on challenging geotechnical and civil engineering projects involving coordination of field activities, data collection, and problem-solving. Responsibilities will include drilling observation and field crew coordination; geotechnical drilling; instrumentation installation and monitoring; cost estimate and contract development; and geotechnical construction observation. Preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, and technical reports will be expected in this role. On-site investigation tasks may include classifying soil and rock samples and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. The work will involve frequent out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or related field
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Willingness and ability to regularly travel
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 30 pounds or more
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic coursework or previous work experience directly related to geology, hydrogeology, or geotechnical engineering
  • Extensive construction materials testing experience

NOTE: Applicants must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and to enter and work within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided.
