Procurement Specialist/Buyer

Job Title: Procurement specialist/Buyer                               Department:   Operations
Status: Full-time
 
Summary:
Each Buyer is responsible for negotiating and purchasing direct/indirect material and services while also evaluating breadth and performance to determine most desirable suppliers.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
 

  • Review and processes purchasing requests for goods or services to ensure compliance with purchasing procedures and user requirements
  • Prepare requests for quotation, supporting spreadsheets, comparisons, recommendations, and justifications; obtains telephone quotes when indicated.
  • Interact with suppliers and internal customers regarding order status
  • Maintain records in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  • May validate, reconcile, and process receiving reports, invoices, and other payment documents.
  • May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work.
  • Support production purchasing requirements for daily production plans.
  • Metrics to support:
  • On-Time Delivery to Promise Date (OSD)
  • On-Time Delivery to customer request date
  • Suppliers Quality
  • Meet with suppliers regularly and enforce, review the following metrics
  • Supplier On-Time Delivery: 98% or better
  • Supplier Quality: 99% or better
  • Supplier Cost Reductions” 10% per year
  • Implement plans and strategies to reduce total cost on existing and new products
  • Manage customer notification and long-term coverage for EOL components. Ensure production and customer requirements for orders are not adversely affected.
  • Develop, implement and review Consignment Plans, processes, strategy and transition of products.
  • Participate in supply base rationalization strategy development and supplier transitions.
  • Work with suppliers to optimize material packaging and presentation.
  • Support material review board and manage supplier warranty and non-warranty repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 2-5 years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience in electronic components and industrial computer system components strongly preferred.
  • Possess strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ERP Systems.
  • An APICS certification is preferred.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
 
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
 
Computer Skills:
Ability to utilize a personal computer and related business software including, but not limited to, spreadsheet, word processor and relational database software. Ability to manage and utilize an automated sales order entry system.
 
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
