Controller - Iron County Medical Care Facility - Crystal Falls, MI

The Iron County Medical Care Facility (ICMCF) seeks an experienced Controller to join their Financial Team in Crystal Falls, Michigan

This position is responsible for the Facility financial activities including accuracy of the company's financial results, monitoring and maintaining a system of accounting records and controls, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. This position reports financial data to the Administrator and Department of Health and Human Services Board.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTROLLER. 
  • Plan, develop, organize and implement the facility’s accounting functions by continually monitoring all accounting processes, procedures and internal controls for compliance.
  • Supervise accounts payable, receivable, and purchasing staff; ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding insurance billing, resident trust fund and other related accounting processes.
  • Maintain the general ledger system to include the preparation of journal entries, monthly financial statements and all monthly reporting to reflect the Facility’s financial status.
  • Become knowledgeable of Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement models, both current and proposed; prepare yearly data for preparation of Medicaid and Medicare cost reports.
  • Participate in union negotiations; explain financial impact of management and union requests.
  • Oversee, monitor, and assist with collection of account receivables and purchasing. 
  • Oversee, monitor, and assist the payroll and accounts payable systems.
  • Prepare and maintain yearly and monthly budget reports, as well as other local, state, and federal reports for reimbursement and tax purposes.
  • Prepare financial reports for and participate in Board Meetings.
  • Maintain and oversee all fixed asset requests and transactions.
  • Work with auditors during the year-end audit; prepare schedules as requested.
  • Coordinate with Iron County Treasurer’s office regarding financial and budget functions including all cash transactions between the Facility and the County.
  • Maintain and balance all bank accounts.
  • Manage funding and grants related to COVID or other future funding.
  • Manage facility audits including annual financial audit; Medicaid, Medicare and funding agency audits.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AS OUR CONTROLLER.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance required.
  • 2 year’s accounting experience with knowledge of general accounting principles and bookkeeping procedures required; previous management experience preferred.
  • Healthcare and/or skilled nursing home financial management experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail with initiative to solve problems as they arise.
  • Ability to prepare relevant financial data and reports.
  • Proficiency with computers, financial accounting and payroll software, general office software (Word, Outlook) and advanced working knowledge of Excel required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a professional demeanor that ensures trust and competence amongst peers.
  • Ability to lead and manage a diverse staff, workload and prioritize tasks.
