Communications Assistant — Digital 

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and influencing policy outcomes. It works on budget and tax policy, health care, food assistance, housing, and a range of other programs important to low-income people. The Center’s funding comes from private foundations and individuals.  
 
The Communications Assistant — Digital position offers an opportunity for an emerging digital communications professional to work and learn in a dynamic, fast-paced environment as part of the Center’s Communications team to help the Center shape critical policy debates through innovative digital strategy.  
 
Responsibilities  

  • She/he/they will serve as a key member of the Communications team, providing support in maintaining Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, including drafting content for, and engaging in, digital events like tweet storms and chats.  
  • Manage communication to our general subscriber email list. 
  • Serve as back-up on basic web posting jobs and web analytics tracking and assist with basic graphic design work.  

Qualifications 

  • A minimum of six months of experience in digital communications and an associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Some experience with digital communications strategy, such as social media, email, and website management  
  • Comfort with writing and editing HTML  
  • Basics graphic design skills, including knowledge of Adobe Illustrator 
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to synthesize and translate complex policy topics for multiple audiences 
  • Experience and comfort working in a fast-paced, quick-turnaround environment 
  • Meticulous attention to detail 
  • Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines 
  • Hunger for following breaking news, policy debates, and political developments, as well as familiarity with public policy and the legislative process highly desirable  
  • A commitment to the Center’s mission to improve the well-being of low- and moderate-income people and advance racial equity as part of the Center’s work 

This position reports to the Director of Digital Strategy.  
Terms of Employment: Two-year term position, exempt. 
Bargaining Unit Status: This is a bargaining unit position. 
 
Compensation: Salary and title commensurate with experience; excellent benefits, including three health insurance options, dental and vision care, life and long-term disability insurance, retirement, flexible spending and dependent childcare accounts, and generous vacation leave, sick leave, and holiday schedules.
