Procurement Intern

Overview:
The Procurement team is an integral part of Navistar operations. Accountable for the sourcing of direct material used in the manufacture of our products as well as indirect goods and services. With this magnitude of fiscal reach, the Procurement team actions are at the very core of Navistar operational success with direct bottom line impact.
 
Interns are carefully selected for one of the following Functional Areas (this list can vary based on project):
  • Direct Material Procurement
  • Indirect Services/Goods Procurement
  • Purchasing Program Management
  • Supply Chain Risk Management
  • Supply Chain Operations
  • Procurement Processes & Systems
  • Supplier Warranty Recovery
 
Potential Projects:
 
  • Vendor Consolidation Strategy and Tail Spend Analysis
  • Freight data alignment
  • Establish process for Supplier Capacity/Lead time documentation
  • Assist with data mining information to formulate Category Strategies– i.e.: Liaison with the Engineering teams to get technical details for the strategy
  • Assisting in CSA negotiation and execution
  • Optimization of Aftermarket processes and part number rationalization

  • Applicants should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree primarily in Supply Chain, General Business or Industrial Engineering, but increased consideration will be given to those in technical fields such as, Automotive technology, Heavy Equipment, Engineering, Marketing, or General Business
  • Preferred candidates to graduate in December 2021 or Spring 2022 (opportunity is open to college students who are sophomores at the time of application)
  • Talented, high-energy problem solvers who are self-starting and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Have great computer skills - PC proficient (Microsoft Office)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Team oriented – willing to work with others inside and outside your department
 
Basic Requirements: 
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
OR
 
For Legal Jobs:
  • Pursuing a Juris Doctor degree or Doctor of Law degree (J.D.)
 

Position Purpose and Requirements:
This program gives students the experience of working in a business, manufacturing, and/or technical environment, which will assist them in relating their academic studies to practical work situations. Interns will develop a working knowledge of the trucking industry in one or more of the following areas: Operations (manufacturing, supply chain, procurement), engineering, information technology, finance/accounting, marketing, communications, legal, or human resources. Students will also develop an understanding of Navistar’s products, customers, values, and processes.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be able to provide housing and transporation for the duration of the internship
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required – For certain positions (Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B or F-1 status)
 
Desired Skills: 
  • At least Sophomore standing for undergrad at the time of application
  • Able to work at least 12 weeks (starting the end of May or early June through August)
