COVID-19 Temporary HR Assistant

Rate of Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 Hourly

The City of Ames is currently seeking to fill a COVID-19 Temporary HR Assistant for COVID-19 case investigation and contact tracing and COVID-19 leave form processing. This temporary assignment is expected to last from November 2020 - May 2021, however the timeline may be adjusted based on need. Interested candidates must be willing to commit to working four to five days per week and approximately 20 hours per week. Depending on the need of the student, the position may have flexibility during finals week and school breaks.

Under the supervision of the Health Promotions Coordinator this role is responsible for responding to employee and supervisor inquiries regarding COVID-19 cases and will be responsible for reviewing all initial case information. The candidate will also be responsible for identifying and interviewing contacts; entering information into a tracking system and working with supervisors to communicate possible COVID-19 exposure. The candidate will communicate information to employees and supervisors regarding COVID-19 leave and track hours of leave used and form completion and provide additional assistance as needed in our team environment. The student will apply educational experience in the real work environment, including working independently, with employees, and other colleagues.
Provides general administrative and project support to the HR Department.
Data entry and analysis.
Responding to e-mails and calls regarding questions about COVID-19 situations.
Performing COVID-19 case investigation and identification of possible exposed persons.
Perform administrative support such as copies, faxes, preparing materials, preparing documents, and filing.
Performs other COVID-19 related duties as assigned.

Required: College student or a recent college graduate from a college or university with a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Public Health, Human Sciences, Human Resources or a related field, plus coursework or experience in a public health, contact tracing, or human resources environment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred:
Proficiency using Microsoft, Excel, Publisher and internet research tools.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to confidently and clearly communicate information in writing and verbally.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities. Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)
Previous experience/knowledge in COVID-19 case investigation and contact tracing
Overall positive attitude toward work, Human Resources team, and City of Ames employees.

Selection Process:
The selection process consists of an evaluation of education and experience, interview, and completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check. All candidates will be notified by email of their application status.
