Amusement Park Management Intern

Adventureland safely and successfully opened for our 2020 season and will be open for our 2021 season.
 
Description:
If you want to learn people skills, help lead a team, and do it in the most exciting place possible, this is the opportunity for you! This position offers the most unique, fun yet demanding, and rewarding atmosphere in which a student could spend their summer. This is a position that works in conjunction with eight Area Managers and three Department Directors to execute all aspects of operations in the Foods department. The position operates primarily at the operational level, assisting with day to day operations of thirty-five different foods stands and a staff of over 350. Students will rotate between five different operational areas throughout the summer, exposing them to many different leadership opportunities and styles. A full business cycle will be witnessed as the student will have the opportunity to be part of the preparation, execution, and conclusion of a full park season. Communication and management skills will be developed through extensive contact with guests, employees, management, and department heads.

 
Duration:
April/May 2021–August 2021. Weekends only April-May, full time between Spring semester and Fall semester, optional weekends-only after Fall semester begins. Flexible dates are available.  
 
Specific duties:
• Participate in all aspects of food preparation and sales during peak times
• Learn operations of all areas of Foods department
• Welcome, orient, and train new employees
• Work directly with Area Managers in planning, execution, and documentation of daily operations
• Work to train, correct, and motivate employees
• Enforce appearance, performance, and operational standards
• After learning a new Foods area, its managers, staff, and operations, demonstrate leadership to effect successful operations
• Assist product ordering, rotation, and maintenance of appropriate inventory levels
• Assess employee performance to offer feedback and improve staff training
• Maintenance of in-park point-of-sale marketing
• Identify new opportunities for improving sales and marketing
• Regulatory compliance and standards enforcement, including Labor Department regulations and food safety practices
• Execute all aspects of large corporate functions, from 75-2,500 guests 
• Work directly with Area managers and department heads to accomplish tasks
• Assist in employee discipline, guest relations, and interactions with parents
• Participate in social activities with international college students
 
Qualifications:
• Ability to work in fast paced environment and handle stress
• Excellent listening skills
• Past customer service experience
• Be on feet for long periods; walk several miles a day
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Able to work outside in all summer weather conditions
• Independent, resourceful worker
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Able to work weekends and holidays
• Lift and carry up to 50lbs
• Experience in cash handling and team leadership is preferred
 
 
 
Majors:
Business Management; Hospitality Management; Event Management; General Business; Social Science; any major that deals with people or leadership.
 
Details:
• $9.50/hour
• Season-end bonus program
• Five days a week 11am-8pm, approximately
• 45-50 hours a week during park season, no time-and-a-half
• Ability to work 50+ hours if desired
• Students selected for this position will work 450-550 hours during the spring and summer
