Internships for Arts and Education Majors

Kansas City Young Audiences’ Community School of the Arts is offering paid internships for its 2021 Spring Break and Summer Camps. This is an excellent opportunity to get teaching artist training from some of the best artists in the region, as well as learn how an arts education program is run.

Intern duties include serving as a classroom assistant and communicating with teaching artists, parents, and students about administrative policies. Interns will be responsible for helping groups of 5 – 10 young people throughout their camp day. Interns will oversee snack breaks, lunch and restroom breaks, clean up after students, and participate in classroom activities. Interns serve as a liaison between the artistic and administrative aspects of the Community School of the Arts. As such, interns will have the opportunity to observe and assist accomplished teaching artists. In the classroom, interns can expect to learn classroom management techniques, time management and lesson planning skills, as well as various games and activities to be used in numerous classroom settings.

  • KCYA will offer three weeks of Spring Break Camps: March 15-19, March 29-April 2, or April 5-9 (Mon-Fri). Interns must be available Monday-Friday 8am-4pm for at least one of the weeks, but do not have to be available for all three weeks to be considered. There will be a required training meeting prior to the first day of camp.

  • KCYA will offer nine weeks of Summer Camps: June 7-August 6 (Mon-Fri). Interns must be available Monday-Friday 8am-4pm for a full weeks to be considered, but do not have to be available for all nine weeks. There will be a required training meeting prior to the first day of camp.

*KCYA will provide PPE including face masks, face shields, and disposable gloves to prevent the spread of COVID19.
