DOROT 2021 Intergenerational Program Engagement Summer Internship

2021 DOROT Intergenerational Summer College Internship Program

DOROT offers an 11-week summer internship program for five college students in our Intergenerational Program Engagement Department. This unique internship experience will find interns working and collaborating together and with DOROT staff and other facilitators on intergenerational programming which they will deliver to cohorts of older adults and teens. Only current Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will be considered for our summer college internship positions.

Several of the internship positions will be entirely remote. If circumstances permit, DOROT and our partner agencies may provide a “hybrid” experience for some interns including both onsite and remote work activities.

This internship program provides students with an understanding of the issue and impact of social isolation among older adults as well as DOROT’s response. We give each intern substantive work and project management experience. Each intern will be entrusted with significant responsibilities and will make meaningful contributions to the organization and the seniors DOROT serves. In addition to the day-to-day tasks that are assigned through the Intergenerational Program Engagement Department, each intern will also be matched with one older adult which they will speak with weekly for a one-hour friendly conversation.

Prior to beginning one’s internship, each participant will attend a comprehensive orientation. Throughout the summer, interns will collaborate with the DOROT staff and one another, fostering a great sense of camaraderie.

Program Details
DOROT’s Summer College Internship begins on Tuesday, June 1 and will conclude on Tuesday, August 17. This is a five day a week placement, Monday through Thursday 9:30am-5:30pm and Friday 9am-4pm. Please note: Orientation for this position will take place on June 1 and 2, from 9:00am-5:00pm.

All interns in this program will receive a stipend in the amount of $2,200 at the successful conclusion of their internship. In addition to the stipend received by DOROT, some prospective interns are able to earn additional stipends from their college or university. To learn more about these opportunities, interns should reach out to their individual schools. Additionally, DOROT is able to offer college credit with approval from an intern’s academic institution.

Application Process
We will begin reviewing application in November 2020. Acceptances will be awarded on a modified rolling basis, with the first round of acceptance letters going out in mid-December and each month after that, until all positions have been filled. Applicants must complete DOROT’s 2021 Summer Internship Application. In addition to submitting an application, candidates are asked to send their resumes to Sharon Stahl, Coordinator of College and Adult Volunteers, at sstahl@dorotusa.org with the subject heading “2021 Summer Internship Application”. Only candidates who submit completed applications and resumes will be considered for internship positions.
