Summer 2021
Position: Criminal Justice Internship 
Location: Remote and in-person (Although most of the internship is remote, we ask that interns come to our office in either Pittsburgh or Philadelphia 1-2 times per week to help with administrative tasks.) 
Time commitment: 16 hrs/wk for 10 weeks beginning on June 1, 2021 
About us:
The Pennsylvania Innocence Project is a non-profit law firm seeking to exonerate those convicted of crimes they did not commit and to prevent innocent people from being convicted. The Pennsylvania Innocence Project also seeks to raise awareness about issues within the justice system, along with advocating for the convicted innocent. The Project operates out of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. 
Description:
The Pennsylvania Innocence Project is seeking creative and motivated interns dedicated to helping carry out the Project’s mission. Criminal Justice interns will support smooth office administration and gathering of information for case evaluations. This is an opportunity to gain real-world experience about issues plaguing our criminal justice system and provides interns with a chance to make a significant impact on the lives of others.
Responsibilities:
·      Obtaining case information from courts, attorneys, administrative agencies
·      Assisting staff in office duties and tasks including filing, scanning, and data management/entry
·      Assisting legal staff in preparation for hearings by compiling evidence, transcripts, motions, other materials as needed
·      Assisting law student interns with a case review or investigation
·      Weekly staff meetings with Project attorneys and legal interns
Qualifications:
·      Interested in learning about wrongful convictions and the post-conviction legal process
·      Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and strong organizational skills
·      Takes direction, open to constructive feedback, and communicates with supervisors well
·      Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
·      Minimum GPA of 3.0

Compensation: The position is unpaid, but the Project is an eligible off-campus work study employer with a number of schools, and many of our interns have also been able to secure public interest fellowship funding.

Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn credit.
