A research opportunity is currently available at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), in the Office of the Center Director (OCD) located in College Park, Maryland.
Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will conduct research on alternative methods such as in vitro, in silico, read across, and other non-animal methodology. The participant will collaborate with FDA scientists and participate in other agency activities in alternatives. This research project will be restricted to science and not policy.
The participant will be involved in research activities that advance the use of alternative non animal test methods that support the 3Rs of replacing, reducing and/or refining animal testing. This could include activities such as read across, modeling, in vitro to in vivo extrapolation and organs on a chip.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: ~December 2020
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and FDA. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of FDA contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at FDA in the College Park, Maryland, area. Participants do not become employees of FDA, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
