Art Department Intern


Our organization documents women in political leadership through and unique blend of photographic portraiture and storytelling. By spotlighting the role of women in politics, our mission aims to positively influence the younger generation to actively participate in our democratic institutions. We believe that images are the most powerful way to reach young people and our goal is to utilize creative visual vehicles to reach today’s youth.


 

This internship is ideal for students:

* who would like to work in an organization's art department
* who are also interested in gender parity, civic engagement, the intersection of art and political discourse, journalism, and/or social media’s role in political identity.
* who would like to enhance their career goals and/or their socio-political agenda with the bonus of being able to work remotely.
 



Snapshot of intern duties:

 
Week One & Two
— Work on branding our Time Capsule of women office holders of color
— Illustrate our Haikus of female politicians
— Create social media templates for all our social media platforms
—Attend our weekly Speaker Series. The series aims to explore various jobs in the political sphere and the speaker’s pathway in government/politics
—Attend our weekly workshop on how to successfully create & be a valuable member of a Team
 
Week Three & Four
—Work with a team on their design needs: Social Media, Speaker Series, Grants/Finance, Newsletter, Blogging, Design/Website, Podcasting, Time Capsule, Media & Like-Minded Organizational Outreach, etc.
— Illustrate our Haikus of female politicians
Begin researching a woman in political leadership you’d like to photograph for our project (optional)
—Attend our weekly Speaker Series. The series aims to explore various jobs in the political sphere and the speaker’s pathway in government/politics
—Attend our weekly workshop on how to successfully create & be a valuable member of a Team
 
Week Five & Six
—Create an animated gif for our Newsletter and/or our email correspondences
—Continue working with a team on their design needs: Social Media, Speaker Series, Grants/Finance, Newsletter, Blogging, Design/Website, Podcasting, Time Capsule, Media & Like-Minded Organizational Outreach, etc.
—Send out an invite to a female elected you’d like to include in the project (optional)
—Follow up and schedule the photo shoot (optional)
—Attend our weekly Speaker Series. The series aims to explore various jobs in the political sphere and the speaker’s pathway in government/politics
—Attend our weekly workshop on how to successfully create & be a valuable member of a Team
 
Week Seven & Eight
—Start planning with the Art Department on creating a website for Power in Place: Activist
Photograph of your chosen female elected and post your portrait onto our website (optional)
­— Continue working with a team on their design needs: Social Media, Speaker Series, Grants/Finance, Newsletter, Blogging, Design/Website, Podcasting, Time Capsule, Media & Like-Minded Organizational Outreach, etc.
—Attend our weekly Speaker Series. The series aims to explore various jobs in the political sphere and the speaker’s pathway in government/politics
—Attend our weekly workshop on how to successfully create & be a valuable member of a Team
 
 
Week Nine & Ten
Fabricate design elements for our digital Time Capsule
— Keep working upon assembling a website for Power in Place Activist
—Attend our weekly Speaker Series. The series aims to explore various jobs in the political sphere and the speaker’s pathway in government/politics
—Attend our weekly workshop on how to successfully create & be a valuable member of a Team
 
****Each intern should dedicate approximately 20 hours per week for a part-time internship OR 40 hours for a full-time internship
****Be able to participate in weekly team meetings via Zoom
****Upon completion of the internship, each intern will be highlighted on our collaborators page & receive a gift bag of goodies, & prepared to lead campus presentations of the project on your campus in the fall



By the end of the summer interns will be proficient in:

—branding and website design
—creating social media campaigns featuring female public office holders
—scheduling & conducting photography shoots
—enhanced photographic skills
—illustrating Haikus of women in elected office
—being a trusted & valuable team member
—effective communication skills in a professional setting
—understanding the organizational aspects of non-profits
