Position Title: Lifeguard
Operating Unit: Resident Camp, Camp Alice Chester
Location: East Troy, WI
Report To: Waterfront Specialist, Camp Director
FSLA: Salaried
FTE: Seasonal full-time; June-August
Hiring Salary: $375 per week + room and board
Position Summary: Maintain and enforce safe waterfront practices while implementing waterfront activities. Assist in the 24-hour supervision of 5-24 girls in grades 2-12. Uphold all camp policies, procedures, and safety standards for the wellbeing of staff and campers. Exhibit exemplary role model behavior with campers and other staff.
Major Accountabilities:
· Maintain constant surveillance of campers and other waterfront goers in structured and unstructured waterfront activities.
· Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of all campers.
· Lead, supervise, or teach waterfront activities including and limited to paddle boarding, canoeing, swimming, fishing, etc.
· Maintain an organized and clean facility, equipment, and supplies; report needed repairs.
· Assist in the opening, closing, and daily cleaning of the waterfront.
· Create a positive rapport with all campers, and their parents, in group, helping her to learn to respect and understand herself and others.
Key Responsibilities:
· Help campers follow directions and rules.
· Maintain a safe work environment and promote a sense of responsibility toward preservation of natural resources at the waterfronts.
· Implement emergency procedures, through regular practice of drills and in-service training.
· Maintain and assure appropriate adult to girl ratios with groups.
· Lead or assist with program activities by creating and/or following lesson plans each week that reflect the week’s theme.
· Effectively and respectively communicate instructions, issues, and needs with campers, staff, and supervisors.
· Cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment.
· Ensure implementation of Girl Scout Leadership Experience and the Girl Scout Law.
· Keep records of incidents, logbooks, and attendance and return completed any required paperwork on time.
· Uphold and respect camp and Girl Scout traditions both daily and weekly including nightly debriefs with campers, Girl Scout Ceremonies, meal times, etc.
· Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and creative to situations.
· Assist with opening and closing of Camp for the season.
· Potentially accompanying girls on adventure trips.
· Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Camp Director.
Position Requirements:
· At least 16 years of age.
· Ability to lift 50 lbs, swim 600 consecutive yards, and regularly walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas and on uneven natural paths.
· Experience and desire in teaching, guiding, and working with children and want to have a positive impact on campers’ lives.
· Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular hours.
· Leadership, teamwork, and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision
· Current certification American Red Cross Lifeguard or certification from another organization having equal standards.
· Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid.
· Experience in an aquatic facility; lake setting experience or certification is preferred.
· Certification or noted experience with small watercraft.
· Commitment to creating and maintain a positive, fun, and professional environment.
· Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program and enroll as a Girl Scout member.
