Post-doctoral Fellow / Staff Scientist - Metabolomics

The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is seeking a staff scientist or post-doctoral fellow interested in collaborative team-based research to direct metabolomics studies within a newly created Metabolic Phenotyping Core. This position is based within the Aging and Metabolism Research Program at OMRF. Primary responsibilities include the maintenance, operation, and analysis of metabolomic data generated from Agilent instruments, including a high-resolution LC-MS/MS instrument (UHPLC-qTOF 1290 Infinity II-6546) acquired in 2020 and a GC-MS instrument (7890B GC, 5977A Extractor XL MSD) acquired in 2015. The successful candidate must have hands-on metabolomics mass spectrometry experience in biomedical research, with a preference for LC-MS-based metabolomics. Prior proteomic mass spectrometry expertise will be considered. Experience conducting stable-isotope metabolic flux analyses is preferred but not required. The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Prior collaborative and/or service-related experience is preferred, including familiarity with Agilent MassHunter software, open-source metabolomics software, and statistics. The selected candidate will contribute to the success of the Center for Cellular Metabolism Research in Oklahoma, which is a Phase I NIH COBRE proposal with the goal of cultivating novel multidisciplinary research focusing on metabolism. Thus, the research interactions will include a multi-disciplinary group of colleagues at OMRF as well as at the neighboring University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

OMRF (omrf.org) is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institute located adjacent to the campus of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) in Oklahoma City. OMRF and OUHSC also house the National Institute on Aging-funded Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center that provides unique research cores to support age–related research (http://aging.ouhsc.edu/). Oklahoma City offers a dynamic and flourishing downtown area, with low cost of living, short commute times and a diversified economy.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D., M.D., or comparable doctoral degree at the time of the appointment. At least one year of hands-on experience in metabolomics research.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
