Assistant Professor (tenure track) - Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the rank of Assistant Professor. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in either AI/Machine learning; Optimization (especially with applications to machine learning); cybersecurity; cloud computing and distributed systems (preferably with networking and service architecture knowledge); or data science (especially in AR/VR/MR), though strong candidates with specialties in closely related areas of Computer Science will be given full consideration. The ideal candidate will have the ability to integrate with existing research expertise in the department and to engage in applied research in collaboration with industry and other non-academic partners. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field and will become a member of the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics (cmps.ok.ubc.ca). The appointment is expected to commence on July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter.

The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics is a dynamic and highly interdisciplinary department of more than 40 faculty members with deep strength in optimization and with growing research clusters in astrophysics, data science, machine learning, and medical physics, as well as active engagement in the scholarship of teaching. The Department is home to the Centre for Optimization, Convex Analysis and Non-Smooth Analysis (ocana.ok.ubc.ca) as well as the Medical Physics and Data Analytics Cluster (mpdac.ok.ubc.ca), and it is in the process of affiliating with the Banff International Research Station (birs.ca).
