Miromatrix, Inc. is a biotechnology and regenerative medicine pioneer that discovers, develops, and delivers innovative, award winning biotherapies. We are currently developing bioengineered liver technology to provide therapy for patients suffering from acute and chronic liver failure, with similar programs for a bioengineered kidney. Our progress to date was recently recognized as a 2019 Buzz of BIO for Pipelines of Promise, through successful grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and publication of results in Nature Biomedical Engineering for the Liver Program, and as a KidneyX prize winner for redesigning dialysis.
Position description:
We continue to build our organization and development teams. Miromatrix has an immediate opening for a highly motivated Process Development Engineer interested in joining our Organ Bio-Engineering Program in a fast-paced, team and results-oriented work environment. We are looking for a talented Process Engineer to assist in the development and maintenance of control systems that will enable production of novel bioengineered organs. This engineering leader would define and develop manufacturing process for bio-engineered transplantable organs. The position involves knowledge in hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical system design.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain custom hardware and software to enable the production of bio-engineered organs
• Lead the design, development, integration, and testing of hardware and software solutions for the production of bio-engineered organs
• Integrate off-the-shelf components into organ production systems
• Conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality to support investigations and/or design changes
• Plan and execute equipment and process validations
• Independently own, lead and track hardware development projects
• Draft original patent submissions
• Innovate through challenging problems and commit to rigorous problem solving
• Efficiently excel in technical writing assignments
• Experimental planning, execution, and reporting
• Identify applicable standards
Minimum Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in one of the Life Sciences or Engineering disciplines including Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering
• At least 2 years of experience working in an industry setting
• Demonstrate previous experience in building or integrating programable logic controllers for industrial applications
• Demonstrate some experience in designing, building, programing, modifying and repairing microcontrollers
• Experience in some of the following computer languages: Python, SQL, C++, Java, structured text and/or LabVIEW
• Demonstrate previous experience with rapid 3D prototyping
• Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are essential
• Enthusiasm for a collaborative work culture and desire to make a positive impact
• High level of attention to detail and the ability to maintain thorough documentation
Desired and Preferred Qualifications:
• Preference will be given to applicants who have previous experience in creating integrated fluid management systems with varying input devices controlled by a PLC
• Prior experience with development and use of bioreactors for tissue culture and cell/molecular biology, preferably in an industry setting
• Previous experience in integrating pressure, flow and biometric sensors into a unified control system
• Experience in engineering medical grade hardware solutions for cleanroom settings
• Demonstrate previous experience in the ability to work on hardware projects efficiently and independently
• Ability to create and manage SQL-like databases
