Summer 2021 Human Resources Intern

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is one of the nation’s leading policy institutes focusing on federal and state issues that affect low-income families and individuals. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of federal and state policy debates, and influencing policy outcomes. The Center’s expertise spans a range of areas including federal and state budget and tax policy, health care, social insurance, nutrition, housing, income support, and other policies that are important to low-income people.

The Center seeks a human resources intern for the fall semester. The intern will report to the Sr. Director of Human Resources and work with a close-knit, three-person HR team. Responsibilities will be varied and will include providing support in an array of HR functions. The intern will take on substantive projects related to benefits and pay, recruitment and onboarding, and personnel records management.

The HR Intern will provide general administrative support to our three-person HR department, handle confidential and non-routine information, assist with benefits administration, maintain data, process new employee paperwork, maintain filing of employee personnel documents, and track onboarding and offboarding checklists. The HR intern will also schedule/confirm orientation meetings or other departmental meetings and work independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects as needed.

Successful interns will have a commitment to the Center’s mission to improve the well-being of low- and moderate-income people and advance racial equity as part of the Center’s work.

To expand the diversity of voices that speak with authority in federal and state policy debates, the Center’s internship program identifies highly motivated candidates — with particular attention to candidates having experience with communities that are underrepresented in policy debates — with a demonstrated interest in working on public policies that affect low-income and diverse communities and have implications for racial equity.
