Curriculum Development Spring Intern

Project Description
Audubon New York seeks a graduate student to assist our NYC education staff in assessing, reviewing, and reorganizing our current elementary, middle school and high school curriculum to realign it to state and national learning standards and illustrate how our program aligns to Audubon’s conservation goals and strategies; specifically Creating Bird Friendly Communities and ED&I
Audubon NY’s urban education program currently known as For the Birds! has recently gone through a rebranding and renaming process to better inform our Leadership, funders, and others on the evolution from just serving elementary school now working with students through HS, college and beyond in an effort to bring our audiences from nestlings to fully fledged conservationists. The new working title of our education program is
Learn, Advocate, Rise-up & Conserve or LARC (like the bird but with a C).
Our education programs currently fall into three main categories:
Nestlings Program (grades 2-5)
·      School-day or after school
·      Enhancing traditional school curriculum
·      Providing foundational skills & knowledge in bird conservation
Fledglings (grades 6-12)
·      School-day or after school
·      Student-centered & research focused curriculum that fosters critical thinking
·      A Focus on investigating and taking action on local bird conservation issues
Youth Conservation Leadership Council (grades 9-12)
·      Middle/HS students
·      After school or out of school time
·      Collaboratively investigate conservation issues, create solutions, and put those solutions into action
·      Program leads to volunteer and internship opportunities.
