Conservation Data Manager

The Conservation Data Manager designs and maintains relational databases for a wide variety of projects and initiatives in the Maine Business Unit and assists the Maine Spatial Scientist with the maintenance and management of Maine’s GIS projects and library. They work with a wide variety of chapter staff to understand the informational needs of different departments and constructs systems that meet these needs efficiently and in a coordinated manner.
The Conservation Data Manager:
  • Leads efforts to coordinate and plan for conservation data design, organization, function, and reporting.
  • Performs data analysis; designs and produces complex queries and professional reports, processes spatial and other relational data sets derived from cartographic and tabular source material and provides hardware/software support.  
  • Maintains the Maine Natural Resources Conservation Program tracking database, keeping precise records of funds in and out and habitats impacted and compensated in each region. Develops queries and reports to support the grant review process and the program as a whole.
  • Develops and delivers training to staff individually and in groups.
  • Produces maps and other graphic products and reports. 
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of Maine’s GIS library and/or database products library and compiles, assembles, and maintains land protection, biodiversity and management information from various sources.
  • Combines and normalizes existing databases into an integrated system.
