Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc., is a full-service forestry, GIS, real estate, surveying, and appraisal company with offices in Tomahawk and Hayward, Wisconsin; and Negaunee, Michigan. Steigerwaldt has been a family owned and operated business since 1957.
 
We are currently seeking to fill one full-time Forest Analyst position based out of the Tomahawk office. This is considered an established professional position, requiring previous inventory, analysis, and GIS experience, or applicable education. This position would serve as a key member of the Steigerwaldt Analysis and Technology Solutions department. This group provides a variety of real estate, natural resource, and forestry-related analysis, inventory, data management, and mapping and technical solutions services to internal and external clients. 

Responsibilities include GIS project management, forest inventory processing, growth and yield, timber valuation, and assisting with timber resource analysis projects. This is a diverse position, with opportunities for growth in many fields relating to forest inventory and analysis.

The ideal candidate would meet the following criteria and competencies to complete and excel in the day-to-day tasks of a Forest Analyst and as a member of the Steigerwaldt team: 
·       Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or related Forest Sciences, with graduate degree preferred
·       Minimum of two years of experience in forest inventory and analysis
·       Inventory leadership experience involving managing logistics, production, and data quality
·       Experience with forest inventory and GPS navigation software and hardware
·       Experience with ESRI ArcMap 10.x GIS, AGOL and ArcGIS Pro software, and other GIS platforms
·       Experience using Microsoft Excel and Access
·       Desires to develop and excel in a career as a Forest Analyst in a fast-paced and diverse consulting business.
·       Knowledgeable and skilled in functional/technical expertise areas of GIS project management, forest inventory processing, growth and yield, timber valuation, and assisting with timber resource analysis projects
·       Willingness to complete field work in all weather conditions and commit time to office work.
·       Ability to travel and assist with out-of-state forest inventories in remote locations up to ±15 percent of the time. Traveling has opened our team up to exciting locations and experiences.

·       Current valid driver’s license
Other core competencies that are preferred:
  • Experienced in SQL, Python, and R database management and development
  • Timber valuation and appraisal
  • Forest biometrics and timber inventory workup
  • Forest modeling, including USDA Forest Service Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS)
  • Querying and using Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) and Timber Products Output (TPO) data
  • Experience with drones for data collection

Posting Date: December 23, 2020. Position will be filled within one to three months. Interviews will be scheduled throughout this time period. Expected start date is in February 2020, dependent upon candidate availability.
