Interpreter Job Duties

Interpreters present programs that encourage connections between the park and the visitor. The position will be responsible for developing programs to include research, promotion and presentation. Presented programs will focus on programming for small family groups and informal roving to ensure health & safety for interpreters and participants.

  • Entails working weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Interpreters must be aware of all rules regulations (or how to find this information) about our parks. They will be expected to answer telephones while in the office if full-time staff are not available and answer questions of the public while working in the park either when doing natural resources inventories, roving interpretation, or when out preparing for programs.
  • Interpreters will be expected to follow a parks interpretive plan as per the themes and types of programmatic offerings outlined within the document. 
  • Interpreters will fill out program reports and evaluations and submit them on-time.  
  • Interpreters will be available for assistance in park operations in cases of emergency due to electrical outages and/or damages due to weather related incidences.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be available for all interviews and training as required
  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Graduated from or currently enrolled in or on break between semesters of college having a keen interest in biological, conservation or environmental science program.
  • Able to work alone, with the public, in all conditions, on weekends, holidays and nights as required.  
  • Work with minimal supervision, demonstrate responsible behavior and attention to detail.
  • Follow policies and cooperate with supervisors and co-workers
  • A background check is required prior to start date
