CDC Epidemiology Fellowship

A research opportunity is currently available with the Field Research Branch (FRB), in the Division of Field Studies and Engineering (DFSE), within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Researchers in the Field Research Branch conduct large-scale and in-depth studies examining the effects of workplace exposures on chronic health effects. Findings will contribute to protecting worker health through occupational health policies and recommendations for controlling hazards. Areas of focus in FRB include cancer, cardiovascular disease, reproductive health, and health inequity.

The selected participant will collaborate with the FRB epidemiology team on current research studies. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant may be involved in the following activities:
  • Conduct literature searches of published and grey scientific literature
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of summaries on emerging COVID-19 literature, including checking for 1) completeness; 2) updating citations; and 3) verifying abstracted data summaries are accurate
  • Conduct statistical analyses and write scientific manuscripts using data from a study of healthcare workers exposure to COVID-19. Research areas include PPE use and availability, mental health, and knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with COVID-19 prevention.
  • Contribute to the development of educational and other communication materials used by principal investigators to communicate research findings

The appointment will offer the opportunity for multidisciplinary collaboration with epidemiologists, industrial hygienists, statisticians, and experts in information technology.
